Scuba Diver

At Burton's Dive Service, we believe strongly in NAUI's motto "Dive Safety Through Education". Our NAUI Scuba Diver course is presented in 3 phases: Orientation Session, Academic/Confined Water Training and finally Open Water Training.

Orientation Session: 1 evening with the class instructor to answer any questions, review and complete paperwork, review class schedule and receive textbook kits and handouts. This session runs for about 3 hours and is usually scheduled 1 week prior to each course. Earlier orientation sessions may be attended if you wish.

Classroom/Confined Water Training: consists of 6 evenings of combined classroom lessons and pool training sessions, totaling 9 hours of classroom and 9 hours of pool training. You will have a chance to discuss the information you have learned and how it relates to actual diving experiences as shared by the students and staff. In the pool, after viewing skill demonstrations, you will be given ample time to practice skills and gain comfort and confidence before venturing into the open water. Scuba equipment (air cylinder, buoyancy compensator, regulator) is supplied. Students are responsible for providing their own personal snorkeling gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots, weight belt and lead weights).

Open Water Training: The certification must be finalized with 5 open water dives which can be completed with us in the St. Lawrence river. The first day is mostly skills review from the pool sessions as well as an introduction to wetsuits and some new skills like underwater navigation in a protected area of Brockville or Prescott. The second day of dives will be conducted at the wreck of the Conestoga located in Cardinal Ontario. The open water training fee includes the use of our rental scuba equipment for the weekend as well as air tank refills at our store. The open water dives can also be completed in warmer climates during store excursions or by Universal Referral Program.
