Terry Rudden

Terry Rudden
NAUI Instructor #41162

Terry and his wife Valerie were introduced to scuba diving in 1993 through a twenty minute resort course in Cuba. The course was in Spanish (which he doesn’t speak) and the “dive” took place in an eight foot swimming pool – and Terry was hooked. Even the experience of completing his checkouts in a late October snowstorm back home in Canada failed to dim his enthusiasm.

His dive interests and experience range from Caribbean coral reefs to the wrecks of the Great Lakes.  “Warm water diving and cold water diving are two difference sports”, says Terry. “Unless you do them both, you’re missing half the fun.”

As co founder and partner in Underwatermotion.com, a Montreal-based film company, Terry co-produces the Signature Dive DVDs Series. Terry is also a regular contributor to the Owlmanac, the newsletter of Burton’s “Wet Owl” dive club.

As a trainer and facilitator in “real” life, one of Terry’s greatest pleasures remains helping new and developing divers to share his love of the sport.

Diving
Philosophy
At Burton’s we believe that solid training and good preparation are the keys to safe and enjoyable diving. If you’ve been well trained to deal with every conceivable challenge a diver is likely to face,  you’ll dive with a sense of competence and security that free you up to really enjoy your underwater experiences.
Special
Interests
Film and video production, dive travel, innovative training approaches, writing and blogging about diving, and very bad science fiction films.
Favorite
Dive(s)
Every dive is a great dive, but the greatest of the great (in my opinion) is a specific drift dive in Bonaire, only possible when the current is running the right way. Enter the water at Angel City (a beautiful double reef system of lush, densely packed coral that resembles an underwater suburb of Hobbittown), and allow the current to carry you north across a wide sand flat. After five minutes of drift, the huge wreck of the Hilma Hooker looms ahead of you, a marijuana-smuggling freighter mysteriously sunk off the coast, and now the world’s most popular wreck dive. Explore the ship, exit, and have a beer and sandwich at the bright pink Dive Bus.
